About Us

The mission of the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust is to enrich the coastal plain communities of our state through conservation of natural areas and working landscapes, education, and the promotion of good land stewardship.

The Coastal Land Trust is a high-performing, accredited, regional land trust with a reputation for excellence. Established in 1992, it serves the coastal plain of North Carolina. Its team includes a diverse, engaged and energetic board of directors comprised of leaders in law, biology, finance, philanthropy, business, management and education, and a talented, experienced and dedicated staff who share a passion for nature, and work from offices in Wilmington, New Bern and Elizabeth City. It is a non-partisan, non-adversarial, membership-based nonprofit conservation organization, whose work is data-driven and science-based, illustrated most dramatically in its adoption of a Top 40 list of priority conservation projects.

The Trust is active throughout the coastal NC: its beaches, river corridors, farms, forests and marshes, its sandhills and savannas, its public parks and greenways. We aspire to bring together citizens and landowners, natives and newcomers, to set aside lands for conservation.
