  • About Us

The mission of the Community Asylum Seekers Project is to cultivate a supportive community for those seeking asylum in the U.S., while offering basic needs and accompanying them on their journey towards building a life in this country.

    What we do:

    • Find local host homes for individuals and families seeking asylum
    • Support them with food, shelter, connections to legal aid, medical and mental healthcare, community orientation, language learning, school enrollment, and other daily needs as they build new lives in Southern Vermont
    • Support and resource a community of volunteers who help us welcome asylum seekers to Southern Vermont, ensuring that our support is culturally competent, anti-racist, and LGBTQ-affirming
    • Recruit and work with pro bono attorneys to assist them in navigating the asylum claim process
    • Help them achieve eventual autonomy as they attain work permits in the U.S.
    • Collaborate with partners at the local and state levels to build and sustain a welcoming community with the infrastructure necessary to ensure access to rights for asylum seekers
