Book 'Em: Books for Prisoners

  • About Us

Book 'Em is Pittsburgh's books to prioners program. Prisoners have limited access to education materials and restrictions for receiving packages are tight. We step in by mailing hundreds of packages to individual prisoners across the country each month. We are 100% volunteer and depend almost entirely on donations to cover our book donations. We solicit book donations from the general public as well as stores, publishers, and libraries, and also scavenge for them in dumpsters. We also produce and distribute prioner resource guides for Pennsylvania and Virginia and have formated and duplicated small how-to handbooks on subjects ranging from portrait drawing to auto repair. We are housed in the Thomas Merton Center in the Garfield section of Pittsburgh.
