About Us

The Climate Emergency Fund (CEF) was created in July 2019 to support climate activists demanding a more urgent response to the climate crisis. The science is clear: without a dramatic shift in how we interact with the planet, we are heading toward disaster—and sooner than expected. The 2018 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Report warned that the world is headed for climate disaster as soon as 2030. The United Nations has warned that at least 1 million animal and plant species are at risk of extinction due to human activity.

CEF recognizes that this is a critical moment to support activist movements and that only a peaceful planet-wide mobilization on the scale of World War II will give us a chance to avoid the worst-case scenarios and restore a safe climate. To that end, CEF provides funding to individuals and organizations that demonstrate the intention and capability of disrupting with urgency the inadequate gradual approach governments around the world are taking to address the climate emergency.
