Family Friends at the Intergenerational Center

About Us

Family Friends is an intergenerational program that connects older adult volunteers who have experience, wisdom and time to share with children and families who may be feeling overwhelmed and isolated.

Our volunteers are recruited from the neighborhoods in which families live, are carefully screened, trained, and matched with compatible families. Family Friends volunteers spend time each week with children so that their parents and grandparents can take a break. We build lasting relationships and friendships.

The objectives of the program are to decrease caregiver stress and isolation, promote positive youth development, and increase the ability of families to access needed services and resources in the community. These goals are met by offering a continuum of services including in-home support, respite trips for children and their families, special events for families, and social work services.
