  • About Us

Barr Christian Vocational Center was founded by the ten Development Committee members of Barr Anglican Church in Ayira parish, Barr sub county in 2011, to train orphans, children with disabilities, school drop outs and other vulnerable children in the internally displaced peoples camps based in Barr sub-county so it may become economically self-reliant.

Barr Christian Vocational Center is registered as a Christian Non Governmental Organization, Non denominational, and Nonprofit and registered with the National Board of Non Governmental Organizations. It is located in Ayira parish, Barr sub country, Erute country, Lira District, 12 kms east of Lira town, Aloi road, Northern Uganda. Certificate number S.5914/8886.

Our philosophy is to “love one another as you love yourself.”

The organization carries out development activities to fight HIV/AIDS, support orphans and abandoned children, school drop-outs, educate young girls, and promote human rights.

    BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZATION

Communities in Northern Uganda have been devastated by the Lord’s Resistance Army, which has terrorized the region for more than twenty years, destroying homes, killing family members, stealing anything valuable, and abducting children to be used as soldiers. In addition to the loss of human life, animals, and property, many churches, schools, granaries, and health centers were burnt down.

Owing to the above situation the people have been suffering in the camps, especially widows whose husbands were abducted and killed by the Lord’s Resistance Army. Many men and women have died of HIV/AIDS leaving orphans, vulnerable children, and disabled children who can no longer attend school. Women and children’s human rights are abused, HIV/AIDS infection rate is very high, and young girls are vulnerable to sexual exploitation. There is no education at any level and no healthcare services, which has led to the death of many people. Famine and hunger are widespread for the people of Barr Sub County and Northern Uganda in general due to lack of adequate rainfall and very low food production. This situation is intensified due to the fact that there are no economic activities going on in Barr Sub County that can up lift the vulnerable communities from poverty, ignorance, and disease.

Mission statement: To create job makers as well as improve on the self employment level, eradicate poverty and ignorance, and help the vulnerable children, school drop-outs, youth and orphans in this area through acquisition of skills provided by Barr Christian Vocational Center.

Vision: To empower the community through education and vocational training so that they are self employed and realize their full potential in the community.

Objective: To establish a vocational training center within the disadvantaged rural communities of Barr sub county that will provide the best vocational training, information and development center and to increase the intake from the current 20 orphans to 250.

The number of orphans, disable children, abandoned  children and school drop outs who need vocational education are 400 in Ayira parish and Barr sub county, Lira District Northern Uganda  We are training 20 orphans under the trees , and when it is raining we send them home.

Now the schools in Uganda have reopened since January this year and our school is not yet reopened because of lack of classrooms.

We have acquired 30 acres of customary land ready for the construction of the vocational training center and charitable work. The community especially the orphans have burnt 25 000 clay bricks ready for building the five classrooms, an administrative office and two toilets.

The children of God are crying for help from us but we don't have any means of helping them. They come to us every day for help because they don't have food to eat, no clothes to put on, no sleeping materials and no education at all among others.

Therefore it is my humble request to you to assist us with $ 25,000 so that we can build the five classrooms, an office and two toilets, one for girls and one for boys.
