Nisqually Land Trust

Rising from the meltwaters of an ancient glacier, the Nisqually River courses 78 miles through Mount Rainier National Park to its delta in the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, on Puget Sound.

Founded in 1989, the Nisqually Land Trust acquires and manages critical lands to permanently benefit the water, wildlife, and people of the Nisqually River Watershed.

We are the lead nongovernmental conservation organization in the watershed, and we have built a reputation for working collaboratively with partners throughout the watershed and the Puget Sound region to protect land and water for the benefit of wildlife and our local communities in Thurston, Pierce, and Lewis counties.

The Nisqually Watershed provides over half of the freshwater that flows into South Puget Sound and is the primary source of drinking water for communities throughout the watershed and the City of Olympia. Today, the Land Trust protects, and stewards more than 7,300 acres in the watershed. With the help of volunteers and partners, we have planted over 250,000 native trees and shrubs to improve forest habitats on Land Trust property.
