Cotuit Library

  • About Us

The Cotuit Library is known as "the heart of the village." Founded in 1974 as a place for the exchange of ideas, the library serves over 36,000 patrons each year, offering programs for all, from toddlers to seniors. We are a beloved institution in the village where all are welcomed in our gracious, historic building whose front wing where our Children's Room is currently housed, was designed by Guy Lowell, architect of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.

We offer books, movies, periodicals, a "library of things," and organize hundreds of programs each year, including book and poetry groups, mahjongg, crafts, music and movement for children, services for aging community members and educational programs on topics ranging from the environment to plants to safety for seniors.

The library is an independent 501c3, partially funded by the Town of Barnstable and other private grants, and we raise about half of our funds from outright donations and events.

Administered by a Board of Trustees, the library engages a large number of volunteers for fundraising and community building.
