  • Mission

At Paws Place, our mission is life, and it's one life at a time. Since 1999, we have rescued, rehabilitated, and adopted dogs. As a 501C3, non-profit organization we rely completely on the generosity of individuals and businesses in our area who provide us with the much-needed financial support to run our organization. Paws Place is located in Winnabow, just off our Rt 87 on 17 acres of land. Our dogs are sheltered in a spacious, climate-controlled facility featuring 26 indoor/outdoor kennels, 5 quarantine kennels, 2 outdoor playpens and 3+ acres of walkable space. Paws Place focuses on pulling dogs at risk of euthanasia from crowded county shelters in NC. But we we’ve traveled to South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, and St Croix.

    About Us

20% of the dogs we pull are Heartworm Positive. And we do not shy away from pulling dogs with complex medical cases including dogs that require specialty surgeries or dogs with puppies on the way!

On average Paws Place incurs annual costs of over ½ million dollar just for the care of the dogs:

    • Covering Emergency & Specialty Surgeries, Vet Exams/Xrays/Special Tests, Dog Food, Heartworm Treatment, Medications, & Spay/Neuter

Every dog is fully vetted before it gets adopted. Before going home, a Paws Place dog is brought up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped, started on heartworm prevention, treated for any medical conditions, and shown tons of love.

Our paid staff is small, so volunteers are the heart of our organization. In fact, our Board of Directors is 100% volunteer based and oversees payroll for kennel staff; handles bookkeeping; facilitates adoptions; administers social media platforms (+28,000 followers); manages volunteers; and oversees all repairs and maintenance for the kennel.

We rely 100% on donations –whether it’s kennel supplies, dog food, blankets, towels & sheets. Our wish list is updated regularly according to our needs. Monetary donations are used for operating expenses, veterinary expenses, food expenses, utilities, maintenance, and more.
