The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust, patron HRH the Duchess of Cornwall, is engaged in a long-term project to restore all 70 miles of the historic Wilts & Berks canal, which traverses today's counties of Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, to create a tranquil, biodiverse waterside park for the benefit of the public. When completed it will put Swindon back at the heart of the southern English canal system linking the Kennet & Avon canal, the Cotswold canal and the Thames at Abingdon. Large economic benefits will flow from growing leisure and tourism all along the waterway.
