Carolina Headache Foundation
Mission
Our mission is to improve the standards of headache diagnosis and treatment in the State of North Carolina through education and advocacy.
About Us
The Carolina Headache Foundation (CHF) is a North Carolina nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by headache disorders through education, advocacy, and awareness.
Our work is grounded in the belief that every person living with migraine and other headache disorders deserves timely, evidence-based, compassionate care. We strive to improve healthcare by educating clinicians, empowering patients, and fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, researchers, and community partners.
Our flagship initiative is PRIME (Preparing Residents through Instruction in Migraine Education) an innovative educational program that equips family medicine residents with the knowledge and confidence to diagnose and treat headache disorders in primary care settings.
For most people living with migraine and other headache disorders, the first stop is their primary care physician. Yet despite headache disorders being among the most common and disabling neurological conditions, many primary care physicians receive little formal training in headache medicine during residency. As a result, patients are often referred to the relatively small number of headache specialists, leading to long wait times while they continue to live with pain and disability.
PRIME was created to help change that. By equipping primary care physicians with practical, evidence-based education and the confidence to diagnose and manage many headache disorders, we aim to improve access to timely, high-quality care where most patients first seek help. Our early outcomes demonstrate that this approach is making a meaningful difference for both clinicians and the patients they serve.
The Foundation is entering an exciting period of growth. Building on the success of PRIME, CHF was recently awarded a competitive multi-year educational grant from Pfizer to expand the program and its impact across North Carolina. Combined with the support of generous philanthropic partners, this investment is enabling the Foundation to strengthen its educational programs, expand organizational capacity, and build sustainable
Although we are a small organization, we are deeply collaborative and mission-driven. Our board includes physicians, healthcare professionals, nonprofit leaders, and community advocates who share a commitment to improving headache care throughout North Carolina.
We are seeking individuals who enjoy working in a collaborative, evolving environment where initiative, thoughtful communication, and continuous learning are valued. Team members have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions across programs and operations while helping shape the future of a growing organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with headache disorders.
