Lotus Music and Dance

  • About Us

Lotus Music & Dance, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1989 by master Bharata Natyam dancer Kamala Cesar. Lotus' mission to protect, promote, and celebrate the music and dance traditions of all world cultures is carried out on a daily basis by providing instruction in over 15 different forms of multicultural dance and music as well as Arts-In-Education programs to schools throughout the tri-state area.

Lotus Music & Dance also presents Manhattan's only open air pow wow, the annual Drums Along the Hudson: Native American Festival, which is now approaching its seventh year. This free day-long event held in Upper Manhattan's Inwood Hill Park, the only remaining old-growth forest and natural salt marsh in the borough, brings Native American culture and world heritage to the general public through music, dance, storytelling, craft demonstrations and authentic foods.
