Kona Hospital Foundation

The Kona Hospital Foundation is dedicated to improving Kona Community Hospital for the entire community. We fund medical technology, expanded services and enhanced facilities that would otherwise be unavailable. It is the goal of Foundation Board of Directors and staff to achieve a state-of-the-art facility with comprehensive medical services which will enrich the lives of every member of the community today and into the future.

Since its inception, the Foundation has donated over five million dollars towards numerous projects that have improved the hospital. Major endeavors include the Radiation Oncology Center, Imaging Center, Nuclear Medicine Suite, and Outpatient Chemotherapy Building. Many other projects to date include the emergency helicopter landing area, repair and painting of the facility, enhanced directional signage for visitors, medical equipment and education for hospital professionals. Current projects include an “Adopt-A-Room” patient room renovation drive, construction of a multi-faith chapel, and renovations of the Emergency and Medical Surgical Units.

By working closely with hospital CEO Earl Greenia, community physicians, hospital managers and staff, the foundation targets significant hospital projects requiring funding. Monies are obtained through direct donations, private and public grants, investments and fundraising events. When citizens become aware of hospital needs and state funding deficiencies, support becomes a philanthropic priority for the entire community. The future of quality health care in West Hawaii relies on this support.

Day to day operations of the Foundation are managed by a staff of two, and the help of numerous volunteers. We are overseen by a eight member volunteer Board of Trustees.
