Gibson House Museum

The Gibson House Museum’s mission is to preserve and exhibit a Victorian Back Bay House house and its collections for the education, enjoyment, and inspiration of the neighbors and visitors from afar. The Gibson House Museum offers an opportunity to learn about the architecture, decorative arts, and history of Boston’s Back Bay from mid-nineteenth century to the present day.

Completed in 1860, the Gibson House stands virtually untouched as a historic house museum in Back Bay. In 2001, the National Park Service designated Gibson House as a National Historic Landmark. A unique and unspoiled single-family residence, it retains its kitchen, scullery, butler’s pantry, and water closets, as well as formal rooms and private quarters. The house is filled with the Gibsons’ original furniture and personal possessions. Visitors enjoy a glimpse into the lives of a well-to-do Boston family and its domestic staff.
