WASHINGTON EXPLORER SEARCH AND RESCUE - THURSTON COUNTY UNIT
Mission
The Thurston County Unit of Washington Explorer Search and Rescue (TCWESAR) is an all-volunteer organization which provides life-saving search and rescue services for the citizens of the State of Washington. We provide people, planning, coordination, logistics, training, and equipment to support emergency responses for the Washington State Military Department’s Emergency Management Division and the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. The TCWESAR is the only ground search unit in Thurston County, the “911 of the woods.” The unit was founded in 1977 as one of the first youth-based search and rescue organizations in the nation. We have volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
About Us
Our unit is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to helping those lost and injured in our community. We rely on donations and fundraisers to fund our life-saving operation.
We work with the Thurston County Sheriff's Office to conduct missing person searches in rural and urban settings, recovery missions, evidence searches, and flood control operations.
We are a part of the Washington Explorer Search and Rescue (WESAR), a statewide organization comprised of youth and adult volunteers.
