Senzala Seattle

  • About Us

Senzala Seattle is a community that practices the Afrobrazilian art form Capoeira. We are dedicated to the promotion of Capoeira and other Afrobrazilian arts and the communities from which they came. We are currently acting in collaboration with Bahia Street, a non-profit organization that empowers girls from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods in Salvador, Brazil by providing them with high-quality education. Our annual fund-raising event Rites of Change, which will take place April 7th, 2007, is a project to fund a Capoeira program for the girls at the Bahia Street School. Our hopes is that this program will increase the girls' confidence and self-esteem, and provide them with a profound appreciation of Afro-brazilian arts, which are so frequently undervalued.
