Established 1971, Chester County Camp Cadet is an overnight summer camp for kids ages 11-13 residing/attending school in Chester Co., with Troopers and other law enforcement professionals serving as counselors.
Modeled on the State Police Academy, emphasis is on improving self-discipline, confidence and self-esteem, learning the benefits of teamwork and making good decisions, along with respect for authority and each other.
The civilian Board of Directors, working with local businesses, corporations, and members of the community, raises funds to offer this camping experience at no cost to the participating children's families.
Partnering with Special Olympics , Camp Cadet also hosts Sunny Day Camp, founded in 2016 as a way to promote good relations between police and children/adults of special needs.
The one-day event includes demonstrations by the K9 Unit, a PD helicopter and vehicles, demos by the Bomb Squad and SERT Team, games with a DJ., lunch and snacks included. Sunny Day Camp is fully supported by the Pennsylvania State Police with funding from companies, individuals, and businesses, separate from donations to Camp Cadet. Tprs and other PD professionals serve as counselors and donate their off-duty time.
Grads of Camp Cadet currently serving with the State Police, and other law enforcement agencies can trace their career path back to a week at Camp Cadet of Chester County.
