Horizons Newark is a tuition free summer academic and enrichment program which seeks to close the opportunity and achievement gap for low income students in Newark, New Jersey and surrounding communities. Without summer learning, low income students lag 2-3 months behind their more affluent peers in reading and math skills. That loss is compounded each summer. Horizons Newark, an affiliate of Horizons National, is a proven model for closing that gap. The program provides a combination of project-based, authentic learning experiences, direct instruction to support skill development, and enrichment activities, all designed to provide necessary education skills and instill a love of learning.
