Coastal Community Foundation was created in 1974 with $9,000 from The Rotary Club of Charleston, with a big idea: to forever serve the South Carolina Lowcountry (Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Beaufort, Hampton, Jasper, Georgetown, & Dorchester Counties) with charitable investments. The initial founders envisioned an organization that would enable individuals, families, businesses and groups to support the community, permanently, through endowments. Coastal Community Foundation currently serves eight coastal counties and manages over $120 million, funding more than 700 nonprofit organizations each year through more than 550 individual funds. We serve thousands of donors and support charitable organizations all areas of the nonprofit sector: arts, education, environment, health, human needs, and neighborhood and community development.
