Grupo de iniciativa nacional por los derechos del niño - GIN

The Grupo de Iniciativa Nacional por los Derechos del Niño (GIN) is an umbrella organization of non-governmental organizations that work in the field of children’s rights in Peru. 26 years ago, GIN was founded as a forum for articulation and coordination; with one of the most important areas of work being the follow-up process of the Convention on the Rights of the Child of the United Nations.

In the past we made contributions to important steps forwards defending children’s rights, among others the establishment of the first Ombudsman for children’s rights in 1999 and the national Protection System of Children and Adolescents (SNAINA). Currently, we participate in the Multisector-Commission in charge of execution of the National Action Plan for Childhood and Youth and working groups on the work of the ombudsmen and human trafficking. Recent successes have been the adoption of Law 30403 against the corporal punishment of children and Law 30466 regarding the best interest of the child.

Thereby, we follow five areas of work: (1) Coordination and Concertation, (2) Supervision and surveillance of the governmental obligations to childhood and youth, (3) political advocacy, (4) Communication, sensitization and public influence, (5) Participation of children and adolescents.
