About Us

RefugePoint (formerly Mapendo International) works to fill the critical and unmet needs of people affected by war and conflict who have fallen through the net of humanitarian assistance. This commitment is expressed through targeting individuals, families and groups of people overlooked by existing aid programs. RefugePoint strives to alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health, and to raise awareness for these vulnerable people.

Since 2005, RefugePoint has provided life-saving interventions and helped to create lasting solutions for many thousands of refugees in Africa, and has worked with governments, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to enhance and improve systems to address the needs of vulnerable refugees in Africa and worldwide.

From our founding through today, RefugePoint staff have worked in Botswana, Burundi, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe to secure the lives of vulnerable refugees. On a global level, our staff regularly take part in and lead discussions on refugee issues in Geneva and Washington DC among governments, UNHCR and NGOs.
