Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative

Our mission is to help homeless and at-risk veterans to reach and maintain their highest levels of independence, and to help them re-integrate into society.

In the past four years we have helped more than 750 veterans and their families.

We seek out homeless veterans at daytime shelters and make early morning visits to find them where they sleep. We help them get access to health care and VA benefits, find safe housing, and – when they do get a place to live – furnish rooms and apartments with donated furniture and household items. We serve a weekly hearty, free breakfast to 8,500 people a year, operate the only local food pantry for veterans, serving more than 200 people a week; and deliver food to those who are physically unable to come to the pantry. We clothe veterans, help them get medical attention, eyeglasses, and transportation to medical appointments and job interviews.

The organization was founded by veterans for veterans. Our motto is: "We don't leave our wounded behind."
