Seva is the Sanskrit word for "service." Seva Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1978 by a group of people who helped eradicate smallpox and, inspired by that achievement, joined together to alleviate other suffering caused by disease and poverty. In over 20 countries around the world, including the United States, Seva and its partners work to prevent blindness and restore sight to over 4 million people. Our work is supported by donors, foundations and volunteers committed to compassionate service.
