The Abuse and Rape Crisis Shelter of Warren County

Originally established in 1984, the Warren County Family Abuse Shelter, a not-for-profit corporation, opened its doors to serve families in crisis. In 1997, the Warren County Family Abuse Shelter changed its name to the Abuse and Rape Crisis Shelter of Warren County, Inc., to better describe its expanded mission of serving survivors of sexual violence.  In 2001, ARCS again expanded it mission to include prevention initiatives. Because of this expansion of services ARCS adopted a new Mission Statement; ” ARCS is dedicated to the safety, healing, and empowerment of domestic violence and sexual assault victims; as well as, creating a knowledgeable and supportive community though prevention education.”Today, ARCS continues its dual role of providing crisis intervention and prevention services.  ARCS is dedicated to providing basic crisis intervention services; such as, shelter, crisis line, advocacy, support groups, and counseling. Additionally, ARCS provides psycho-education groups for batterers that are essential to client safety and perpetrator accountability. One of ARCS many goals is to identify and prevent norms which may give rise to the crimes of domestic violence and sexual violence in Warren County.The prevention services component is called Warren County Violence Free Coalition (VFC).  Diverse membership develops innovative approaches involving strong partnerships to prevent violence in our schools, families, and communities.  The mission of VFC is to create a social climate in Warren County that holds domestic, intimate partner and sexual violence as unacceptable and preventable.  The VFC promotes primary prevention of violence through education, building community resources system change, and public awareness.Our Shelter houses an average of 100 individuals (women and their children) a year.Legal Advocate Services assists an average of 500 adults a year.Prevention Education Services provides programming to an average of 5000 youth per year.
