About Us

The Systems Improvement at District Hospitals and Regional Training of Emergency Care (sidHARTe) program is built on the belief that access to emergency care should be universally available and accessible to all. sidHARTe works in low-resource settings within all levels of the system to improve Acute Care Health Systems Strengthening through technical assistance, application, research and advocacy. This is done through the development and implementation of sustainable programs in acute care and child survival throughout the health care systems, especially among underserved and rural populations in sub-Saharan Africa. sidHARTe also collaborates with various ministries of health to develop national guidelines and tools for the management of critically ill patients throughout the public health system.

sidHARTe is part of the Department of Population and Family Health at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.
