Plaster Creek Stewards @ Calvin College

  • Mission

Helping to restore the health and beauty of the Plaster Creek watershed through Education, Research, and Restoration projects.

    About Us

We are a communnity intiative out of Calvin College working to restore the realationship between people and the watershed they live in. A watershed is an area of land that drain to a waterbody. Everyone lives in a watershed, and did you know that the water quality of our local creeks and streams is a testament of the actions we do on land? To care for our downstream nieghbor we must be aware of the pollution we do or do not send downstream. One could say to unto those downstream as you would like those upstream do unto you.

Stormwater is the biggest contributor of pollution to Plaster Creek. We capture this water by installing rain gardens. These gardens help restore the health of Plaster Creek by catching rain water off the road that would otherwise gush the stream with warm, oftentimes polluted, water. The Michigan native plants we plant in these gardens are adapted to absorb this water with their deep roots and increase local biodiversity by attracting pollinators.
