About Us

The Alcoholism Center for Women (ACW) is a safe haven and a beacon of hope for the women, youth and community we serve. Founded in 1974 as the first residential program on the west coast for women only, ACW's mision is to support the recovery from and prevention of alcoholism and other drug-related problems among all women at high risk for substance abuse. To fulfill our mission, ACW offers a continuum of gender responsive programs with the goal that each woman or youth we serve will maintain abstinence, recognize relapse factors, build self-esteem, and restructure their lifestyle to include prevention and recovery support systems. Our programs include a 32-bed substance abuse residential treatment program, a life affirming out-participant program, and dynamic teen (12-17 years old) and transitional age youth (18-25 year old) prevention programs such as New Choices for Positive Futures after school program, Girls Chat, parenting classes in spanish, and tobacco prevention.
