About Us

Dalkey Archive Press is an independent, nonprofit literary publisher that was established in 1981 to publish the best literary work from around the world, from smaller languages and countries underrepresented in the English-speaking countries, as well as daring work from the more widely used languages. Approximately 50% of our titles each year are literary translations. Our agenda is an aesthetic one: to find writers and books of the highest literary merit regardless of their profitability in the marketplace, and to discover writers from the past whose work has been overlooked. We aim to facilitate the sharing of this literature with audiences hungry for literature that shapes their lives and values. With the backlist of over 850 titles, we have the unique mission to keep our books permanently in print. Our authors have been recipients of almost all major awards, including three Nobel Prizes in Literature.
