Washington Studio School (WSS)
Founded in 1985, the Washington Studio School is a community of artists and students dedicated to the practice of fine art with an awareness of both historical tradition and contemporary experience. WSS offers classes and workshops for adults and high school teens in drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media. Experienced and dedicated faculty teach skills of observation, critical analysis and material technique in an engaging and dynamic environment that supports studio-based art. Complementing three 10-week terms and an abbreviated summer term are a popular 3-week summer teen intensive, a Certificate Program for experienced working artists, and events, exhibits, shows and lectures that are free and open to the public. The School also offers limited atelier space to artists who have studied at the School.
