Housing must become a priority! The percentage of people without access to decent and stable housing is rising. Increasing the housing supply across the globe is essential. Therefore, adequate housing is vitally important to the health of the world’s economies, communities, and populations.
To succeed in the fight against poverty we must support the expansion of housing both as policy and as practice. In Jefferson County there is an estimated 15.4% of the population living below the poverty level. The level is only slightly lower in Lewis County with an estimated 13.5%. This is a serious problem because sub-standard and unsafe housing conditions lead to increases in illness, injuries, and financial burdens.
The world is experiencing a global housing crisis. Habitat for Humanity is working to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve across the globe by improving access to decent and affordable housing.
