Girl Scouts Connecticut Trails AmeriCorps

About Us

AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency created to connect Americans of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to give back to their communities and their nation.

Girls Scouts is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls, where in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world.

Through a partnership of the two organizations Girls Scouts Connecticut AmeriCorps Members help develop volunteer leadership teams, create and implement community programs, and increase community partnerships. Connecticut Trails Corps is headquartered in the Girl Scouts, Connecticut Trails Council’s Southeast Service Center in New London, Connecticut. It was established in 2005 in response to a low number of trained volunteers in the communities of Norwich, Windham, Groton, and New London. AmeriCorps members recruit and train adult volunteers. Members do this through such activities as identifying potential volunteer resources in each community and developing relationships with schools, churches, and community, government, civic and multicultural organizations for volunteer support. They will mentor volunteers and provide training in age appropriate learning activities that support girls in Girl Scouting.
