Mother Block, Inc. is non-profit organization focused on the agricultural activities of the Popelouchum Farm in San Juan Bautista, CA. The organization is conducting a research project to breed 10,000 new grape varieties, with the intention of identifying unique genotypes better adapted to a changing world-wide climate; the dissemination of the new germplasm to nurseries and research organizations will be one of the principle funding mechanisms for the ongoing operation of the organization. The organization will manage the Popelouchum farm, growing approximately 100 acres of wine grapes, fruit trees and vegetable crops with an eye toward true, meaningful sustainability; Motherblock will mount a significant number of dinners open to the public, featuring the produce grown on the site, as well as a number of educational events (lectures, demonstrations, etc.) open to the public, sharing information on techniques of sustainability that it has studied and implemented.
