Girls Rock Philly

Girls Rock Philly is a music and mentoring 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls and women from the greater Philadelphia region through music education and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, self-expression, critical thinking, and collaboration.

Our signature program, a one-week summer day camp, targets girls’ musical development through tiered lessons on the instrument of their choice, self-esteem enhancement, creation of their own music, friendship and community building, and nurturing individual talents within a cooperative atmosphere by working in bands and writing original songs. Through this week-long, self-contained program, campers learn instrument skills, group creativity, team-building and problem-solving through a challenging but highly supportive environment, led by trained adult female instructors and counselors. On the next-to-last day of camp, the campers play their original songs at a public showcase attended by hundreds, with all instruments, audiovisual equipment, recording equipment and printed programs provided by Girls Rock Philly. On the final day of camp, all campers record their original songs at a professional recording studio and their music is distributed on a CD and online. We also offer year-round practice and performance opportunities for campers, through both our own events and collaborative programming with other nonprofit arts and community organizations in the region.
