Bridges Academy at Melrose

Bridges Academy is a Pre-K through 5th grade public elementary school in East Oakland.

Many of our students are the firsts in their family:

• the first to have consistent access to formal schooling,
• the first to attend school in the United States,
• And for many, the first to finish elementary school, middle school, high school, and/or college.

Bridges Academy is a crucial first bridge to success. We make explicit the assumptions and requisite skills of our school system to both students and parents so they can successfully navigate this system, privilege, power, and race.

Our students:

• Exit with strong academic English, critical thinking, and STEAM skills.
• Are excited to pursue their education and continue to explore the world around them.
• Show pride in their community heritage and language.
• Understand that their individual success is important to improving and transforming their community, society, and planet!
