About Us

Founded in 1878, the YWCA San Francisco & Marin is San Francisco's first organization working towards the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism. For the past 125 years, the YWCA has worked tirelessly to fulfill its mission of working for peace, justice, dignity and equality for all people through service, action, advocacy and leadership development. We are proud of our role in advocating racial equality and our decades of quality services provided to many communities in San Francisco and Marin.

Currently, our primary focus is providing preventative and intervention services to youth, especially those "at risk." In addition, the YWCA serves as a resources referral center for women and girls and participates in public policy dialogues to benefit women and their families from all economic and racial/ethnic backgrounds. Our Association has made community collaboration a priority whenever possible for the enhancement of existing services and the development of new services.
