  • About Us

    DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice aims to bridge the digital divide by combining media literacy and cultural awareness along with a vast understanding of technology to encourage young women in under served communities to pursue careers in computer science and new media by:

    • Using technology as a tool to teach social awareness of Pan African, Asian and Latino studies.
    • Building leadership skills and community development amongst young women.
    • Engaging interest in computer science through creative methods.
    • Breaking down economic and gender barriers to bridge the digital divide.
    • Teaching media literacy to challenge stereotypes.
    • Equipping and Exposing youth to software such as Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Final Cut Pro to create ones own vision that reflects cultural diversity.
    • Exposing youth to careers in computer science and new media through field trips, guest speakers, and special workshops.
    • Building a bridge of solidarity amongst members to work on technology projects as a team to enhance their communities.
