AmeriCorps Program of Snohomish County
The AmeriCorps Program aims to build generations of individuals committed to service. Every year we recruit a team of 18 members of all ages and from many backgrounds to serve at teens at high schools, alternative schools, and non-profit organizations. Members provide mentoring, tutoring, job preparedness activities, life skills training, service-learning opportunities, etc. Members also recruit, train, support, and recognize youth and adult volunteers.
In addition to the member's placement at a host site serving youth, our energetic program staff and team members serve together engaged in other community events, initiatives and service projects throughout the year. Members are supported through bi-monthly team meetings, a wide variety of training and one-on-one assistance when needed.
From August 2006 through April 2007, AmeriCorps members provided leadership and development activities to over 2,470 at-risk teens. They helped 45 teens find jobs. They involved 663 youth in 1,816 hours of volunteer activities and 328 adults in 846 hours of volunteer activities. Combined, our AmeriCorps Program members have dedicated almost 20,000 hours to helping our community become a better place for teens and families.
Teens report increased leadership and development skills and more commitment to their community as a result of working with their AmeriCorps member. Adults who volunteer along-side members report that they will volunteer again as a result. Members report that they are developing tremendous skills. In short, AmeriCorps members in our community are changing lives and adding to the spirit of volunteerism in Snohomish County.
