Empowering people to improve their communities through collaboration and engagement.

    About Us

Communities Together Inc empowers residents of affordable housing communities across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia to strengthen their neighborhoods and shape their own futures. Launched in 2017 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3), we serve more than 8,600 residents across 30 affordable housing communities through a resident-centered model grounded in collaboration, dignity, and leadership.

As an independent nonprofit provider focused exclusively on community and resident engagement, Communities Together fills a critical gap in private affordable housing. We are not a property manager or developer; our role is to build trust, facilitate resident self-empowerment, and bring excellent programs, services, and resources directly into the communities where people live. Our support helps residents build wealth, health, self-reliance, and community stewardship.

Communities Together holds full CORES certification (Certified Organization for Resident Engagement Services), a nationally recognized designation awarded by an anonymous peer panel convened with standards set by Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF). The CORES certification affirms our use of best practices in resident engagement.

In recognition of our impact, Communities Together received the 2024 Paul Sarbanes Award for Excellence in Community Service from the Affordable Housing Conference of Montgomery County – an award we had not sought.
