We Are Here Community Centre

We Are Here run a community and learning centre inside Nea Kavala refugee camp, in Northern Greece, which currently hosts approximately 700 people, from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Congo, Palestine, Kuwait, Eritrea and other countries.

Many of the people here have been through extremely traumatic experiences and are now faced with a lengthy wait in anonymous conditions. A lack of support, routine, information and occupation can take a big toll on people’s health and wellbeing. 

With a social space, study area and classrooms, a women’s space and an open community space, We Are Here creates an opportunity to learn, create, socialize, share, and build knowledge, confidence and connections. 

We run a child-friendly space for the smallest camp members, weekend children's activities, daily language classes for adults, music classes, sports activities, various educational and recreational activities inside our women's space, and a weekly youth club, as well as a weekly music and dancing event.
