THE JAY AUSTIN SIMPLY BE KIND FOUNDATION, INC.

  • Mission

Jay Austin, our inspiration, a Washington, DC resident, Georgetown University graduate with a Masters in International Relations, was cycling the world when 389 days out, on July 29th, 2018, in Tajikistan, a country in Central Asia, he and his partner, Lauren, were intentionally targeted and brutally murdered by terrorists, while literally riding their bikes, simply because they were American. Both were 29 years old. In honor of Jay, on January 1st, 2020, The Jay Austin Simply Be Kind Foundation was launched.

    About Us

Jay was passionate about creating positive change for a myriad of issues encompassing cultural diversity, protecting the environment, minimalism, literacy and nutrition as well as having a love for travel and the great outdoors with a focus on cycling; living life every day to the fullest while respecting our planet. We hope to follow his lead to create a healthier and happier planet for all of us to share and to leave for generations to come.

Our current goals are to create community gardens, a cultural-diverse writing workshop and to follow the Cycling Without Age model, a world-wide program based on volunteer-piloted trishaws for seniors to 'feel the wind in their hair and return from their first ride with rosy cheeks and full of stories'.
