About Us
The Diabetes Research Connection (DRC), a new 501(c)3 non-profit, utilizes a novel funding mechanism, crowd sourcing on the web, to meet the urgent need to fund type 1 diabetes research.
The DRC will enable individuals, corporations and foundations to directly fund peer-reviewed, donor-specified research projects. A streamlined process will expedite funding and will provide the diabetes community with an opportunity to make a difference by supporting innovative ideas and helping to seed careers.
One unique aspect of our model derives from the premise that donors will be able to connect directly with exciting, peer-reviewed research by enabling investigators to develop new ideas in a less constrained environment. Through the powerful crowd funding platform, utilizing social media tools (such as YouTube and mobile fundraising), transparency is created between researchers and donors.
