  • Mission

    The Community Hospice serves seriously ill people and their families during the process of dying and grieving. We enhance quality of life with comprehensive, compassionate services that respect the dignity of those we serve.

    And we offer that help and comfort in eight counties in upstate New York: Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Columbia, Greene, Montgomery and Washington.

    About Us

    Volunteer opportunities include:

    Homecare

      • Friendly visits, companionship, and emotional support for patients living at home
      • Respite for caregivers
      • Practical support for patients and families such as shopping and other household tasks

    Hospital

      • Support visits to patients at the Hospice In-Patient Unit or other local hospitals

    Nursing Home

      • Social visits to hospice patients in area nursing homes

    Vigil

      • Quiet presence and support to imminently dying patients who have little or no family present; most often needed in nursing homes

    On-call/Delivery

      • Arrange to be on-call for urgent delivery needs of paperwork, medication, or supplies.

    Bereavement

      • Provide adult supervision for Wave Riders (bereavement program for children) and facilitator support for adult grief groups

    Administrative Support

      • Telephone/reception coverage during staff meetings
      • Assist with filing, mailings, newsletters
      • Data entry

    Outreach

      • Staff information tables at health fairs, volunteer recruitment events and community gatherings

    Special Projects/Fundraising

      • Assist with a multitude of duties at various fundraising events including golf tournaments, galas, and our Hospice Walk
