Jazz Choreography Enterprises is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to keeping the great American art of jazz dance thriving in New York City. In May 2007 at New Dance Group, Marian Hyun, Co-Artistic Director of JCE, produced the first performance of the JCE Jazz Dance Project, a showcase devoted to jazz dance. It sold out. JCE was founded the same year to bring dance artists and audience members together to celebrate jazz dance.
JCE produces the JCE Jazz Dance Project, a semiannual jazz dance concert, which is held at the Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance. The focus is on original choreography in a variety of jazz styles (e.g., contemporary, swing, Latin, musical theater). In addition JCE offers occasional open classes in significant jazz styles and workshops for Quinnipiac University and Groove With Me, a nonprofit dance and youth development organization in East Harlem for girls 4-18 years old.
Now in our 15th year, we’ve been happy to present the work of well known choreographers such as Chet Walker, Al Blackstone, and Ellenore Scott. Our artists include performers in "Hamilton" and other Broadway musicals, finalists in "So You Think You Can Dance," and an Astaire Award nominee. Our performances have been selling out during the past couple of years, so we are hoping to find a bigger venue for future shows.
