Rancho Compasión is more than a sanctuary for rescued farmed animals — it’s a sanctuary for people, too. Children and adults discover where nourishing food comes from, engage in hands-on animal care and gardening, and experience compassion in action. Through these moments, they cultivate curiosity, empathy, and the simple joy of being present.

As Rancho Compasión looks toward the next decade, their vision is to expand both sanctuary and learning opportunities — welcoming even more children and families to connect, learn, and grow. They hope to double the number of students served this year, offering them space to disconnect from screens, reconnect with the natural world, and rediscover a sense of wonder.

To support this growth, Rancho Compasión plans to expand their education team and reach more students, nurturing the next generation of compassionate stewards of the earth. With 90% of every dollar going directly into their programs, your support ensures that every contribution strengthens their mission: to build a compassionate, connected community where learning, exploration, and care flourish for all.

Rancho Compasión was founded in 2015 in the beautiful hills of west Marin to provide a forever home to rescued farmed animals. What started with the Schinner family adopting two goats became a community effort, blossoming into a non-profit sanctuary that provides a safe haven for over 70 animals today.

Rancho Compasión’s mission is to provide shelter and care for rescued farm animals for their entire natural lifespans, and to educate visitors and students to help them rethink how they view animals typically categorized as “food”. Rancho Compasión promotes and advocates for a vegan lifestyle for the animals, for our planet and for our health.
