Action in Montgomery, Inc.
Action in Montgomery (AIM) is a 501 c 3 organization that serves Montgomery County, MD via engaging
residents in learning how to organize and advocate for affordable housing, after school programs, and other community wide issues affecting the quality of life of County residents. Employing the principles of community organizing in the faith community, AIM has 27 member congregations and organizations and has operated continuously since 1999.
An affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation headquartered in Chicago, AIM is one of four IAF affiliates in the metropolitan D.C, area (Washington Interfaith Network, D.C., Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement, VA and People Advocating Together in Howard, MD.)
Since 1999, AIM has won over $600 million in local government funding for affordable housing, From 2008 to 2016, over 6,500 units of afford. housing were built with these funds. Since 2016, AIM has also secured funding for free after school programs in 4 County public elementary schools that qualify as Title 1 schools. AIM seeks to increase
County funding for affordable housing to $100 million by 2022, in line with the District of Columbia which has already
committed $100 million to affordable housing.
