About Us

Founded in 1996, SouthWings is a nonprofit conservation organization that provides a network of volunteer pilots to advocate for the restoration and protection of the ecosystems and biodiversity of the Southeast through flight. We have flown thousands of individuals and organizations to gather relevant data, determine the best strategies to solve environmental problems, and target individuals with the greatest potential to influence positive change, from reporters and photographers to legislators and community leaders.

SouthWings provides an unmatched aerial perspective of the challenges – and solutions – to protect and restore the rivers, wetlands, forests, and coastlines of the Southeast. Our dedicated corps of volunteer pilots exposes the broad scale of environmental threats and inspires actions to conserve our vital ecosystems and the communities that rely on them.

SouthWings is headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina with a satellite office in New Orleans, Louisiana and performs flights throughout the entire Southeast from the Gulf Coast to the Chesapeake Bay.

Our Mission:

To protect and restore Southeast ecosystems through flight.

Our Vision:

SouthWings envisions the Southeast as a landscape of healthy communities that value and cooperatively steward our natural, cultural and economic resources. We help ensure that the region's unique identity and globally significant biodiversity are held in trust for current and future generations.
