About Us

Since 1992, Sustainable San Mateo County has been the leading voice for sustainability in San Mateo County. Our goal is to encourage an environmentally healthy, economically vital and socially equal region. Sustainability means that we meet today's needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs, by minimizing the negative impact of our activities on the planet's human and environmental resources.

The core of our work is our indicators report, which tracks over 50 metrics to show policymakers and the public how we're performing in each of the "Three E's": Economy, Environment, and Social Equity. Our team is comprised of many volunteers and interns who help with the report. They help us gather data for renewable energy consumption, total water usage, asthma rates, and many other topics!
