About Us

The Room to Breathe Foundation was founded in 2000 to assist families whose children were undergoing a procedure known as the vertical expandable prosthetic titanium rib. Since 2000 the procedure has become FDA approved, and we have seen more children undergoing the procedure. We assist families with fundraising to help offset lodging and travel costs associated with these procedures as a majority of the families travel out-of-state or sometimes out of the country for this procedure. More often than not this procedure is a life saving surgery. In many cases children have to have expansions every 4 to 6 months depending on their growth. Our foundation received its 501(c)(3) in 2011. Because the foundation got put on the back burner because our founder and president's daughter was the hundred and eighth child to undergo this procedure in the world. Now that we have more time to donate to in the organization. It is all systems go and we are looking for energetic artistic creative minded individuals to help donate their time and energy to our mission which is to help these children and their families . So that while they're away for surgery. They can focus on the recovery rather than the expense there are incurring. In most cases families like these are unable to stay at low lot low income lodging home such as the RMH because they are more often than not full to combat capacity and are forced to stay in hotels for weeks on end, even with the hotel comp night for the hospital. The average cost for the stay at the hotel is $150 per night. Sometimes plus parking and food. Which averages out to about $2000 per week per family. For some families. This is a lot of money. And though we are just finally starting it starting to raise money for families, we are able to donate so far $500 in the last three months to families. It does not seem like much but every dollar counts, and that is why we are looking for volunteers to help us achieve our goal. for more information, please contact our office at 570-445-4450. Office hours are available on our website at www.r2foundation.org.
