Pocahontas Communications Cooperative

About Us

PCC works for sustainable rural development in a sparsely populated mountainous area, with emphasis on: creative use of the communications media, particularly radio (we operate three cooperatively owned radio stations which are staffed in large part by volunteers); collaborative approaches to development - economic and social - working with organizations across the community, helping with projects like planning for a worker-owned craft industry and a newly organized child advocacy center; involvement of volunteers in all aspects of our work, including a VISTA project with 25 varied sites. We are located in the Allegheny Mountains along the Virginia - West Virginia border.

November VISTA openings: West Virginians for Affordable Health Care -help with publicity and public education to make sure people know their rights under the new federal health care law. Skills in communication and community relations are an advantage; a strong commitment to citizens' right to health care is essential. Greenbrier Valley Local Foods Initiative works with farmers, markets, restaurants, distributors, schools, consumers, and food pantries to increase accessibility, availability, and affordability of fresh, healthy regional foods. Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity is seeking an out-going, passionate individual to help support their operational expansion. The VISTA will provide outreach to families living in substandard and poverty housing, as well as coordinate and schedule the efforts of volunteers. The Tutoring Center - help with organizing fundraisers and events to increase awareness and funding, publicizing our accomplishments, modernizing our brand and all of our marketing materials, publishing newsletters, writing grants, seeking out major donors in the community. The Nature Conservancy - help coordinate the Potomac Highlands Cooperative Weed and Pest Management Area project. The CWPMA mission is to decrease the impacts of invasive species on native plant and animal communities, public and private forests, private and agricultural lands and local economies.
