Shelter Legal Services
The mission of SLS is to promote self-sufficiency, stability, and financial security through comprehensive and accessible legal services. By locating legal clinics at homeless shelters and service centers, SLS reaches underserved and neglected members of our society who are often reluctant to seek legal help. SLS’s staff consists of 3 supervising attorneys, approximately 30 law students, and 10 volunteer attorneys who assist over 400 homeless and/or low-income persons each year in housing, divorce, custody, child support, bankruptcy, governmental benefits, and other areas of the law. SLS operates weekly legal clinics at the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Chelsea Soldiers' Home, Rosie’s Place, Cambridge Multi-Service Center, and Cambridge First Parish Church.
